Director of Technology: Kevin McCoy

Gateway's Technology Program is based upon a cross-curricular integrative model, where students acquire technology training and skills in their classes across multiple subject areas.  Gateway has several designated areas with student accessible computers, printers, scanners, digital video cameras and other hardware.  Our computers have many types of industry standard software including Microsoft Office, Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash), Apple Final Cut Express, Logic Pro, iLife, iWork, as well as various curriculum specific / learning assistive software & devices including Kurzweil Scan & Read, Inspriation, Carnegie Math Tutor, Accelerated Math, and Logger Pro.

The TechCenter (TC) is one such technology area that plays many roles in student life at Gateway. It serves as the classroom for application intense courses such as the digital Video class. Senior Civics classes regularly make use of the TC for Internet research and creation of multimedia presentations. The TC is frequently used by classes such as Spanish, Humanities and Psychology for a variety of projects, including web page authoring, multimedia presentations, and use of interactive, educational web sites.

The TechCenter contains 25 of our most powerful Apple desktops, the Library Media Center contains 24 desktop computers, the Learning Center contains 9 desktop computers, and there's also a mobile cart with 20 wireless laptops.  Including classroom computers, Gateway has around a 4.5:1 student to computer ratio.  Like all computers at Gateway, each is connected to the Internet via our Local Area Network.  Gateway has a wireless network covering the entire building so that each student & faculty laptop has access to the LAN and the Internet.

Gateway employs the use of the student information system, PowerSchool. This SIS allows parents and students the ability to view academic progress, as well as attendance data, over any internet connected computer.

Each Gateway student has their own password protected user account on the Student Server, on which they may store all their academic-related files. Gateway students may access these files remotely from home. Gateway students also have access to Google Apps. This is a rich tool box for students that provides them with an email account, a online calendar, as well as online word processing and spreadsheet applications with up to 2GB of storage.

Announcements: Gateway annually donates depreciated computers to select students who qualify for the Free & Reduced Lunch Program, and who have the required forms on file.  The Tech Director is also higly promoting the use of inexpensive USB flash drives, in place of floppy disks, for students to move files between home and school computers.  Contact Mr. McCoy for more information on these announcements.

Please see the tech page under Student Life for additional student/ technology information.
