Spanish

Welcome to the Gateway High School Spanish Department. Students at Gateway High School are required to take three (3) consecutive years of Spanish. In class, the students focus on all areas of the Spanish language: oral, aural, reading and writing. The Spanish Department also offers Honors courses and Advance Placement Courses in the Spanish Language and in Spanish Literature. Students can apply to take Spanish 3(H), Spanish 4(H), Advance Placement Spanish Language or Advance Placement Spanish Literature when the courses are offered during course registration. The Spanish department at Gateway High School is committed to helping students understand, enjoy and succeed in the Spanish language not only in school, but also outside of school where Spanish is the second most spoken language in the United States. The academic skills that are taught in the classroom allow students to take them as well as other areas in the professional world. Following The Gateway High School-college prep mission, the Spanish department also strives to prepare our students for the academic course load at the university level. The Spanish department provides a college prep curriculum with tutoring available almost everyday at lunch or after school to ensure that all students achieve the goals outlined in the syllabi. Students are provided with on-line tutorials and homework links that allow them to explore the Spanish-speaking world.
