Welcome to the Gateway High School English Department. In grades 9 and 10 all students at Gateway take World Humanities. This is an interdisciplinary course in which students study the social sciences, literature, writing and the arts through the exploration of common themes and essential questions. In 11th Grade students can either take Humanities (this year with an American focus) or apply to take AP History and American Literature (Hons). In their Senior year all students at Gateway take Civics, an interdisciplinary study of American government, economics, and science, and either English 12, the study of European Literature, or AP English. The fabulous Humanities department at Gateway High School are committed to helping students understand and enjoy their study of the Humanities and use the writing, reading and thinking skills it teaches them not only in school, but also in their daily lives and hopefully into their futures. To ensure this, we not only try to provide the highest quality instruction possible, but every member of the department provides tutoring on a weekly basis to supplement what is taught in class. We also hope the links provided on our website will be a useful resource for students for help with homework, study skills, and topics of interest in the humanities world.
