If you are an 8th grader applying for the incoming 9th grade lottery for the 2016-2017 school year, you will complete the 9th Grade Lottery Application. Please carefully review the following description of the application process for our incoming ninth grade class.
Step One: Get to Know Gateway
There are many ways to get to know Gateway. Our website is an excellent resource for learning more about our school. We also offer a variety of enrollment events, which you can read more about below. Visit our enrollment events calendar to learn about upcoming event dates and registration information.
Enrollment Open Houses
Our enrollment open houses provide a great opportunity to: meet Principal Michael Fuller, attend information sessions hosted by Gateway faculty in each subject area, get to know current Gateway families, as well as learn more about the school's mission and academic program. No RSVP is necessary to attend. All open houses take place at Gateway High School, located at 1430 Scott Street (between Geary and O'Farrell).
Shadow Visits (Prospective Students Only)
Visit us during the school day and shadow a Gateway student, tour the school, and attend an information session. Spaces are limited.You may register here for a shadow visit.
Daytime School Tours (Prospective Families)

Step Two: Create an Admissions Account
To begin the Gateway High School application process, you must create an admissions account. Incoming 9th Grade Lottery Applicants will have instant access to lottery results on March 11, 2016, 8am.
Step Three: Submit Your Application
Submit the online application by Friday, January 15, 2016 5pm You can obtain an application to Gateway in many places: Our online lottery application is the preferred method of application submission. Also, you may obtain a paper application at our main office located at 1430 Scott Street (between Geary and O'Farrell), at enrollment events, from your school counselor or by downloading one from our website.
Please note: For wait pool applicants (9-12th grade for the 2015-2016 school year or 10-12th grade for the 2016-2017 school year), there is no application deadline.
Step Four: Submit Proof Of Residency and Monitor Receipt Of Proof Residency
To be entered into the lottery, Gateway must receive two proofs of residency (click here to view full list of acceptable documents) by Monday, February 15, 2016. You may monitor your admissions account to verify that these forms have been received by the enrollment office. All form submissions will be updated in your admissions account by February 26, 2016.
Step Five (For Lottery Applicants): Lottery Results
Lottery results will be posted to your admissions account and mailed directly to your home on March 11, 2016. Please pay close attention to deadlines for submitting your enrollment decision.
Step Six (For Lottery Applicants): Post-Lottery Registration
Gateway receives 600 applicants for 140 spots in the incoming 9th grade class. If you are selected through the lottery, you will need to notify us of your enrollment decision and if you choose to enroll, you must complete your registration. If you are not selected through the lottery, you will have the option of joining the wait pool and you will receive further instruction at that time.
