Welcome From the Director of Enrollment
Dear Prospective Students and Families,
We are thrilled and honored that you have included Gateway High School in your search of San Francisco high schools. As a small, college preparatory charter high school, we work with an extremely diverse group of students and prepare each one for success in college and beyond. Because of our small size, students are known well, challenged at their level, and encouraged to reach their potential. At Gateway, students discover their unique learning styles and strengths and work hard to improve their process of learning. Supported by an extraordinary team of educators, students at Gateway take a rigorous and extensive course load that exceeds entrance requirements for public universities and private colleges in California and across the country.
San Francisco has many strong high schools for you to consider. We hope that as you learn more about Gateway, you will decide that Gateway is a great fit for you. As you begin the enrollment process, we encourage you to reflect on the type of high school experience you seek and, equally important, to think about your goals and dreams for the future. Keeping these things in mind as you decide on a school will help you to make a wise choice.
Is Gateway High School right for you?
We have a college preparatory curriculum.
Last year, 98% of our graduation seniors went on to college. All of our students take a rigorous course load that far exceeds university entrance requirements. Throughout your high school experience with us, you will receive consistent college counseling and advising that will help you to identify colleges that are a good fit. As part of our college counseling program, you will receive free SAT preparation and your college counselor will provide you with step-by-step guidance through the college application process.
We measure success one student at a time.
With 460 students and a 24:1 student-teacher ratio, we have an intentionally small community where you will be known well and cared about. You will receive personalized instruction from highly trained teachers.
We encourage our students to step up, do right, and dream big.
“Step up” means being a self-advocate and working hard every day. “Do right” means being a good community member, respecting and celebrating the diversity in your community, and taking pride in your school campus. “Dream big” means believing in yourself and aiming high for your education and personal goals for high school and beyond.
This is just a sample of what Gateway is all about and I invite you to learn more by exploring our website and reading our materials. I also encourage you to get to know us better by joining us at one of our enrollment events. Our teachers, administrators, parents, and students truly make Gateway one of a kind. I look forward to working with you in the months ahead.
